It is time the UK increased penalties for animal cruelty

It is ten years since the Animal Welfare Act was enacted but unfortunately there seems little sign that it is having enough effect. The penalties for animal welfare offences are some of the lowest in Europe and now MP’s on The , Food and Rural Affairs Committee want sentences to be greatly increased. Just to highlight the leniency of sentences recently a man was jailed for the maximum term of six months after committing horrific acts of cruelty on a Staffie Bull Terrier cross. You can read a fuller report here.
