Fun Fond Fundraiser: Winning Entry ‘MY DOBE’
By Jane Alexander
Wow! Why is Chica special to me. Well, this ‘timid little Dobie’ makes me smile and laugh every day. She enjoys anything that I want to do, obviously she loves her walks on the fells and fields around home, especially a few weeks ago when she caught her first rabbit, but is equally happy coming to the pub, when I play in the local quiz team. She settles quickly on the long drive down to Spain and Portugal in the winter, and I certainly haven’t been stopped by any more fake Spanish police, since she’s been in the car!
She has little to do with children, but at a Christening I went to, she stood placidly as a tiny child poked her nose with a finger, and other children surrounded her, to stroke her velvety coat. At another social gathering, a friends’ child was sleeping on the sofa, Chica would potter through to check on her, every half hour. This must be innate in her breeding.
She is a wonderful ambassadress for the Dobermann. She went on her first train journey recently, between Appleby and Settle – part of the world famous Carlisle/Settle railway line. No one objected to her sitting majestically on a seat, admiring the scenery to the left and right of her, and lapped up the attention paid to her.
OK! so ‘Miss December’ is not quite the paragon of virtue I paint her – a couple of pairs of chewed up spectacles and the redesigned roof lining in the car, are testament to that, but do I ever regret taking on this large lap dog with separation anxiety – NEVER!!
Runner Up: Ralphie Spink
To Ralphie Puppy, we will love you forever, from Rebecca, Michael, Jack and Alice
You came in to our lives as a bundle of fun…
We taught you tricks, and to run run run…
Your paws, my gosh…
So big and round
A dobe..they said??????
More like a ‘hound’
This dog it grew…
As days went on…
It got some taste…
And liked my song
The violin I play, with such success…
His bone he left, even the mess…
To listen to me play my song…
In front the fire, he sang along
Our pets they are all his friends too
The Horses, the ducks and even ‘the Boo’…
A ferret is this strangest pet…
Which was such a surprise when ‘Ralphie’ met…
In a cage, looking out, at Ralphie’s nose…
Even daring to sniff the poor dogs toes…
Poor Ralphie should have thrown a rage!!!!!!!!!
But Ralphie, kind and so content…
Our puppy that Dobe Rescue sent…
For us to love and cuddle too…
And even drinks out of the loo…
We cherish, love and sooo adore…
We could not ask for any more…
So THANK YOU Pam and all your friends…
For we will love this ‘Ralphie’ to the END
Judges Comments:
Chica
Excellent photo of Chico jumping over style well caught, and nicely written. Carefree Chica jumping that stile with the freedom of the Cumbrian coutryside behind her epitomises for me the joy of life that every Dobermann should know.
Chica checking on the sleeping child is very touching. Brilliant photos of a Dobie bursting with happiness.
Ralphie
Very original and although the pics are not brilliant as stand alone images, the fact that they go with the verses of the poem is wonderful. I loved him dropping everything
Loved the poem on Ralphie, photos good and yes nice with the child but prefer photo to be only of dog! Sorry!
First Prize: Congratulations to Jane, who won these two wonderful Dobermann Prints from Paintings by Polyanna Pickering, with her original signature (kindly donated by Jill Woodward).
Our superb runner up wins a hand-made FOND coat chosen from the forthcoming range designed by Sue Henscker which will be on sale this autumn.
Look out for our next competition – with heartfelt thanks to all who entered.
Spot The Dog?! Competition!
FOND is delighted to announce that the lucky winner of Walter the Dalmatian is Joanna Lamont from Boddam in Aberdeenshire – from over 400 (four hundred!) entries hers was the only winner with Hugo being
the most popular choice of name.
Joanna could not believe she had won as she was just going to make a donation of her entry fee when her work colleagues encouraged her to have a guess and a lucky one it was too! We took Louis our latest edition to the FOND kennel along to help hand Walter over to Joanna and there was not a single growl, nor will Joanna have to worry about veterinary fees. Walter could be the perfect pet!
A huge thank you to all those who participated or donated, the final amount raised being £451.00.
