These are just two of the great prizes that we are gathering for our Prize Draw in July. More details to follow.
You may have read or seen recent reports of the case where two evil brothers were prosecuted for the most horrendous acts of cruelty to a bulldog puppy which later had to be put to sleep as the result of their actions.
They were sentenced at a Magistrates Court to a 21 week suspended prison sentence and a tagged curfew order. We at FOND agree with the huge numbers of those who find this sentence an insult to those who care for animal welfare and urge you to join in the petition initiated by Alex Richardson Lee requesting that this lenient sentence be reviewed.
You can add your signature to the petition HERE
We would also demand that the Magistrate(s) who tried and sentenced this case be required to justify their reasons for not imposing a custodial sentence immediately.
- First prize Fifty Pound M&S voucher – Karen Urquhart
- Second prize Bottle of Champagne – Rosalind Mascall
- Third prize Harvey Knox Vintage Dobermann Family Figurines – Gregg Binns

Many thanks to all those who entered and boosted FOND’s funds to help with our rescue and re-homing.

This seems an apt time to draw your attention to a petition seeking to restrict the use of fireworks. You can find out more about this petition to the UK Parliament and add your signature HERE
Two of FOND’s rescues, Ollie and Fleur will be appearing at ‘Discover Dogs’ on the Kennel Club Rescue stand on Saturday 17th October. Their picture is one of the enteries that has been selected for the Kennel Club’s 2016 Rescue Calendar and they will be attending with their adopter Sue Hird and Pam Hall to promote the sale of the calendar and generally make people more aware of the work rescue organisations do.
With competitions, events and trade stands Discover Dogs should have something to interest all dog lovers. You can find details HERE
We are always happy to see our re-homed dogs and last week we received a visit from Louis and Olga who also brought along owners John and Karyn Birtwistle to do the driving. This was Olga’s second visit and she has come on leaps and bounds in the meet and greet department being confident and happy to meet us.
They all enjoyed an excursion to the dunes with FOND residents Priscilla and Belle though Louis was not going to share his frisbee with anyone.
We were delighted to learn that Louis blog now has more than three thousand followers worldwide. Maybe he will give his visit a mention.
Thanks to the stirling efforts of Margaret Young, Scottish Dobermann Club on behalf of FOND and Bruce Miller on behalf of Fife Rottie Rescue there was a great attendance at the Fun Dog show on Sunday 19th July at Highfield Equestrian Centre, Caldwell Farm, Collessie, Ladybank.
FOND’s stand was well supported, the raffle went well with its first prize of a Tuffies Duronest going to May Anderson. Sue Hird ran a bottle stall and these positively flew off the table! plus a competition to guess how many Jelly Beans were in a huge jar! With the generosity of our supporters FOND raised just over £960.00 to help its Dobermanns so a big thank you to all those contributors.
One of the most astonishing efforts came from Oliver Stelz who adopted Luke a stray picked up near a busy dual carriageway west of Glasgow two years ago. Oliver lives near Farnborough in Hampshire and made the journey, a one thousand mile round trip, setting off around mid-night on the Sunday with Luke and his companion Sally. Two Dobermanns more devoted to their owner your rarely meet. Oliver was not the only person to make a long journey to lend support to FOND, Martin and Margaret Ramsay drove down from Inverness with their Dobie Diesel.
Sue Hird with Fleur and Bev Ronan and Ollie both from North Yorkshire also made the journey and one of our first rescue’s the delightful, pretty Chica was there with Jane Alexander her devoted owner.
Our hearts went out to Stephen, Gill and Elliot earlier in the year when they lost young Baxter not even 3 years of age to cancer, however, this did not deter them from supporting our event and they kindly made the journey from near Birmingham combining it with a holiday near Aberfeldy to come and say hello with their Dobie bitch Roxy who is missing her pal. Not only did they win many prizes from the bottle stall but they went home with the huge jar of Jelly Beans so I hope they are not feeling too sick now!
As ever loyal supporters Margaret and Graeme Easton with their beloved Kaiser were there to enjoy the day and lend support and Kaiser, bless him, presented FOND with a cheque for three hundred pounds.
James Pringle and his son came along with Skye and Diesel and we wish his family well as his wife is not so well, we were also delighted to see the naughty little Eva there with the lugubrious Murphy a regular ‘pit-stop’ if travelling through Dundee they live with Graham and Sally and a more recent rehome was Rosie and her owner Carl Smith probably the fittest pair of all as they go running together and compete in Cani-X events. It was also a great opportunity to meet new people and we had some lovely offers of support in the form of candidates to carry out home checks or make Dobermann collectibles like some lovely key rings. If I have forgotten anyone please forgive me, it was a hectic day but a lovely one with so many well behaved dogs. Thank you. PH.
