Pippin's Appeal

Please can you help FOND with Pippin's expenses?

Please support Pippin

Every day, without fail, the telephone rings with another owner describing the plight of their Dobermann needing re-homing. Many are thoroughly genuine, though others make you wonder whether their dog's welfare is the real priority.

Pippin is one of the latter. Living with a houseful of people and in need of urgent veterinary attention where no one had the time or inclination to see to her welfare and take her to the vet. They could not even take her to the local PDSA claiming there was no money for a taxi. Her owner handed Pippin over without a backward glance though made sure to retain her lead as it was apparently an 'expensive' one. A FOND representative made a 757 mile round trip to collect Pippin and bring her into our care. We quickly took her to our vet who suspected that Pippen was suffering from endometrial hyperplasia a condition of excessive proliferation of the cells of the inner lining of the uterus, which ultimately can result in a pyometra and if untreated then the painful death of the bitch, additionally Pippin had a rather nasty growth just above her mammary gland on her off side which needed removing. The next day she was in surgery being spayed and advanced endometrial hyperplasia was confirmed and the growth removed which we are hopeful is benign.

What a sweetheart! Poor Pippin has taken the journey and the operation in her stride and has settled in easily at the FOND Foster Kennel, and if all goes well she will be ready to go to a new home around the 24 October. We believe Pippin, a pert and cheeky individual is around 8 years old and we know that she had had two previous homes but little about them except that in her last she was with youngsters of all ages.

Up-date 21 October: Great news Pippin is quite recovered from her spaying operation and the removal of the growth which turned out to be an old haematoma. Fortunately tests have proved benign. Pippin goes for a check up on the 25 October and her lapsed vaccinations will be restarted and hopefully someone will offer this fun little character her forever home very soon. Today Pippin enjoyed a walk along the sand dunes with our 'old stager' Bailey.

Up-date 11 Oct:Pippin is off to the vet today for a check up as she has a haematoma where the growth was removed.
